Marlene Hernandez Casillas

Born in San Juan Puerto Rico, year 1969. Started formal studies at age 12 under the tutelage of the late Andres Bueso in San Juan. Enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in San Juan (Escuela de Artes Plásticas) in 1986. Became a protege of Alfonso Arana, who awarded her a scholarship to study and work in his atelier in Paris, France, year 1989-1990. Exhibited in Montmartre and other places of France during that year. In 1991 she completed her BFA in San Juan, and in 1992 arrives in Seville, Spain as part of Puerto Rico’s Pavillion delegation to the 1992 world’s fair. The artist completed 30 credits of a Master Degree at the Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe.

Ángel Nevárez Ríos

As part of this exciting initiative, we have selected artists Marlene Hernandez Casillas and Ángel Nevárez Ríos to exhibit their work throughout the month of June at Banco Popular Rockefeller Plaza Branch, located at 7 West 51st Street in New York.

Ángel Nevárez Ríos

Since 1978 – 80 he was a museums guide for the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña in San Juan, PR. In 1981 he was named Associate Director at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico. In 1995-96 he worked as Director of the Painting Deparment at the same institution where he continues today as an Associate Professor for the Painting department.

Nevarez, Got the 1st Place for Puerto Rico during the Cuarta Bienal de San Juan del Grabado Latinoamericano y el Caribe back in 1979. 2nd Place, , Quinto Salón de Pintura UNESCO, Univ. Puerto Rico, 1979. In 1981 participates in the Quinta Bienal de Arte de Valparaíso, Chile. In 1981 exhibited his paintings at the Central Florida Chamber of Commerce in Orlando, FL. He was invited to represent Puerto Rico in the XVIII Bienal de Sâo Paulo, Brasil and at the Bienal de Ilustraciones de Libros Para Niños, Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, 1983

During 1986, as a member of the congress of Abstracts Artists of Puerto Rico he exhibits his paintings at the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña and at the Modern Art Gallery in Dominican Republic.

In 1988 participates in the Octava Bienal de Arte, Instituto Cultural, Domecq, Mexico D.F., and represented Puerto Rico in the Feria Internacional de Sevilla, España, Pabellón de Puerto Rico, for the event called Cuarenta Años de Gráfica Puertorriqueña in 1992. He was nominated for the Award Mejor Exhibición Retrospectiva – Asociación Internacional de Críticos de Arte, Capítulo de Puerto Rico, 1999. He was part of the exclusive artists of White Halls Gallery - Aurora Licht, Florida, USA, 2001-2003.
